Red Flags identity theft rules dealyed until December 31, 2010
The Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) "Red Flags" identity theft rules delayed the implementation until December 31, 2010. In an effort to address the growing risk of identity theft, the FTC released rules in November 2007 requiring all financial institutions and "creditors" (including health care providers) to develop and implement a written program to protect consumers by identifying potentially suspicious "red flags" that may signal identity theft. The American Medical Association (AMA) and other medical associations have strongly opposed the inclusion of physicians as creditors and have repeatedly been able to delay the rule's implementation date. The AMA and MGMA have developed Red Flags Rule guidance documents and sample policies that can be modified, which can be accessed at:

Hello Payment Reform Summit attendees:
Thanks to each of you for attending the Summit and helping to make it an overwhelming success! I'm writing to provide some new information.
1. The speakers' presentation slides and related materials are available on our homepage at www.healthinsight.org
2. Attached, as promised, is a document which summarizes the recommendations from both the Medical Home (outpatient) and Acute Care (inpatient) breakout sessions. Please...
Review the document and provide any feedback that you may have Feel free to widely distribute the document to colleagues that were unable to attend the Summit
3. We will convene separate f/u meetings for each of the 2 groups beginning in early June. Most of you indicated which of the groups you'd like to continue to work on by putting your name tag in either the outpatient or inpatient container at the end of the Summit. If you did not indicate which group (outpatient or inpatient) you'd like to work on, just let me know and we'll add you and other interested colleagues to the distribution list.
We look forward to working collectively to make payment reform a reality here in Nevada. HealthInsight |

I have watched and listened with interest over the past few weeks regarding the proposed 21% reduction in Medicare payments for 2010. I also share the angst with my fellow healthcare professionals. Undoubtedly, pretty much every healthcare association, organization and society will be publishing a general summary of how the new RVUs, the crosswalks from consults to visits and the reduced conversion factor will affect different specialties in different geographic areas. But here is what my physician clients and peers want to know; exactly how will it impact my practice? Me too.
